Course Description
Presenters: Brandy R Maynard, MSW, PhD & Kristen Esposito Brendel, PhD, LCSW, PEL, C-IAYT

Title: From Stress to Resilience: Mindfulness-based Self-Care for Mental Health Professionals 

•    Understand the importance of evidence-based stress reduction techniques 
•    Gain knowledge of current research involving stress and resilience 
•    Understand the psychophysiological implications of stress management 

Course Description:  This three-hour presentation will examine the ten pillars of resilience. Current research and effective practices for increasing resilience, sustainable self-care, and managing stress will be discussed. Mindfulness-based interventions will be presented as it applies to the demands of mental health professionals amid COVID-recovery. Opportunities for practice will be incorporated throughout the presentation. 

Bios: Brandy R. Maynard, MSW, PhD is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Saint Louis University. 

Dr. Kristen Brendel PhD, LCSW, PEL, C-IAYT, CYT is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Aurora University in Aurora Illinois. 

She is an internationally award-winning researcher, a professor of social work, a licensed clinical social worker, speaker, coach, and a trainer with over 20 years of experience in settings ranging from universities to public schools as well as hospitals, nonprofits, and for-profit organizations. She holds an Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) as well as certifications in yoga therapy from the International Association of Yoga Therapy (C-IAYT) and is a certified yoga teacher (CYT).
