Presented by: Prof. Gabriel Carillo, MSW, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Saint Louis University School of Social Work. Prof. Carillo’s 20+ years of social work practice include academia, child welfare, foster care and adoption, substance use and treatment, and juvenile justice.

Rohan Jeremiah, Ph.D., MPH is an Assistant Professor in Community Health Sciences at University of Illinois School of Public Health. He is a global public health researcher with interests in race, gender, and ethnic- related health disparities.

This Professional Practice Institute (PPI) begins with a global focus on HIV and AIDS, and expands to other co-occurring chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, substance use, mental health, violence and other issues affection men of color. It will examine common psychological reactions to living at risk, common myths, community and cultural practices that intersect with gendered expressions of masculinity that influence men of color health behaviors. It will cover knowledge and skills in cultural competent assessment and intervention planning.
