Course Description: Opiate addiction is a serious clinical issue impacting children, adults, intimate partners and families in many ways. This presentation explores evidence-based treatment approaches with families, intimate relationships, and adults who have experienced substance abuse, with a focus on opiate addiction. Additionally, an overview of the intersection of mental health, physical health, and environmental factors that are often associated with opiate addiction will be addressed. This is designed to prepare social workers to utilize evidence-based practices to address the needs of families who are impacted by substance abuse.

Presented by: Dr. Shannon Cooper- Sadlo Associate Clinical Professor, currently teaches BSSW level practice courses and MSW courses in the clinical concentration at Saint Louis University. Shannon is a graduate of the Saint Louis University BSSW program, the University of Denver MSW program, and obtained her PhD in Family Therapy from Saint Louis University. She has been in clinical practice with various populations and specializes in areas of family therapy, substance use, co-occurring disorders, and trauma. In these positions, she has had significant experience working with individuals and families in hospitals and community settings.
