Course Description: The criminal justice system includes a broad range of professionals including police officers, prosecutors, public defenders, judges, correctional officers, social workers and parole officers. Within the criminal justice system, there is discretionary authority in how offenders are treated. In recent times, many examples well publicized in the media point to significant issues within the criminal justice system, many which are ethically laden. This course will explore the identification, analysis, and resolution of ethical issues using both a criminal justice professional lens and the social worker code of ethics.

Presented by: Paul Hotfelder, M.A. is Assistant Teaching Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice in the School of Social Work within the College for Public Health and Social Justice at St. Louis University. His areas of interest include ethics, the Criminal Justice System operations and Community Corrections.
